Robert W. Butts Trained in musicology and conducting, Conductor/Director Robert W. Butts did graduate work in early music and performs on lute, viola da gamba, recorder and guitar. He also served as Resident Conductor with the highland Park Chamber Orchestra, Garden State Sinfonia, and Skylands Youth Symphony. Currently, he conducts the Little Opera Company of New Jersey, New Jersey Concert Opera, and the Lakeland Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra. Internationally, he has guest conducted with the St. Petersburg Congress Orchestra in Russia, the Sibiu Philharmonic in Romania, and Opera Constanta in Romania. Mr. Butts studied conducting with Maestro Vincent La Selva of the New York Grand Opera, Georghe Stanchiu of Constanta Opera, and Nahun Arman of the Toronto Chamber Symphony. He has studied at the Julliard School of music in New York and at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. When not conducting, Mr. Butts is an active lecturer, teacher, performer and composer. He has taught at Montclair State University, Drew University and County College of Morris. He lectures regularly for the New Jersey Council for the Humanities and with such organizations as the New Jersey Symphony, New Jersey State Opera, the 14th Street Y in Manhattan, the Amadeus Festival and The State Theatre. Mr. Butts was named 2004 Arts Professional of the Year by the Arts Council of the Morris Area. He led the orchestra in the 2005 inaugural concert at Nous Theatre in Blairstown NJ with a program of music by Mozart and Shostakovich.
